The county’s Health Minister said that Nova Scotia’s move towards making regulations regarding organ donation is a hit-and-miss event, which needs new regulations to make sure that doctors completely follow through on the requirements of potential donors.
Maureen McDonald stated that she is trying to gather input from general public on the proposed legislation, which is intended to increase the number of donations that is capable of saving numerous lives.
The county’s Health Department stated that almost 60% of Nova Scotia drivers, or almost 500,000 people, have signed their organ donation cards. This is one of the highest rates that are seen in Canada.
The minister also said that usually, the wishes of potential donors are not kept into consideration by docs, because of which, they do not feel comfortable to keep a track on the matter.
Although, the current law does not permit it, but distressed family members at times claim superiority over the needs of potential donors.
The law that has been recently proposed will make sure that trained medical professionals are always present to talk to dead potential donors’ family members.
