More than 1000 organ transplant recipients representing all 50 states have gathered in our state’s capital this weekend. They’re competing in the 2010 Transplant Games and many just want to show how big of a difference organ donation can make in a person’s life. Before getting a liver transplant back in 2007, Lee Belmas of Kronenwetter was given just two to three months to live. But now, just two and a half years later, he’s competing in five different athletic events. He hopes the success he has found will inspire others to be organ donors. "It's an awesome opportunity that we have,” Belmas said. “It's a charitable giving that you're able to do and what a great way to give somebody a second chance at life." Registering to become an organ donor is easy. You can just log onto yesiwillwisconsin.org. Nearly 108,000 people are currently waiting for life-saving transplants in the United States. 1600 of them live in Wisconsin.
